INTRO: We continue looking at the ministry of Jesus in Mark’s Gospel.
I. THE TRANSFIGURATION –
Mark 9:1-13
A. Ascending the Mount of Transfiguration –
Mark 9:1-2
1. Jesus told his disciples some of them would see God’s kingdom in
its glory.
2. The inner circle of disciples go with Jesus.
B. On the Mountain of Transfiguration –
Mark 9:2-8
1. Jesus was changed from earthly body to a heavenly body.
2. Moses and Elijah appeared with Jesus.
3. Peter made a wrong assumption.
4. God’s approval was upon Jesus as His Son.
C. Descending the Mount of Transfiguration –
Mark 9:9-13
1. Jesus commanded the disciples to be silent for now.
2. They would be able to tell it later.
3. The disciples were confused.
II. MEANWHILE, BACK IN TOWN!
Mark 9:14-30
A. While on the Mount the other nine disciples were left behind.
B. “What is the problem here?”
1. They were helpless without Jesus.
2. A man from the crowd came to Jesus.
3. He was a desperate father.
4. Jesus rebuked the demon.
5. Why were the disciples helpless.
III. THE PROPHECY OF JESUS ABOUT THE NEAR FUTURE –
Mark 9:32-50
A. Jesus and his disciples continued on their journey.
B. Jesus again predicted what would happen in Jerusalem.
IV. THE CLARIFICATIONS OF WHAT JESUS WAS SAYING.
Mark 9:32-50
A. He spoke to the disciples concerning humility.
Mark 9:33-37
B. He spoke concerning harmony.
Mark 9:38-41
C. He spoke concerning hell and judgment.
Mark 9:42-50
